David specializes in Internet related intellectual property and in particular the protection of brands online. He heads up a specialist Domain Name Practice at Hogan Lovells covering the centralised registration, recovery and protection of domain names and clients' rights in over 200 ccTLDs and all gTLDs.
David has a Masters of Engineering from Birmingham University, UK, and a PhD in Physics from the INPG, Grenoble, France David is admitted to practice law at the English and Paris Bars, and is a Domain Name Panelist for the UDRP with WIPO, a .EU and UDRP panelist with the Czech Arbitration Court and expert with Nominet as well as being on the Advisory Board of the Czech Arbitration Court.
David has significant experience in the domain name industry, has advised many clients on numerous launches of TLDs over the last decade, (e.g. .INFO, .BIZ, .EU, .MOBI, .ASIA, and .TEL) including sunrise periods, launch procedures and validation of rights. David and has been attending ICANN meetings since 2000 and is a member of the Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC), was a member of the Implementation Recommendation Team (IRT) set up by ICANN in March 2009 to propose and develop solutions to the issue of trademark protection in connection with the introduction of new gTLDs and currently is the IP representative for Europe on the ICANN GNSO Council and is a special advisor to the INTA Internet Committee.
David also advises on keyword issues, data protection, privacy as well as IT & software matters.
