Dr. Bernd Kundrun

Born in 1957, Bernd studied business economics at the Universities of Münster and Innsbruck. In 1984 he entered Bertelsmann Club as an assistant to the management and took over as a sales manager for the Bertelsmann Club chain in 1987. In 1989 he became head of marketing, responsible for direct marketing, recruiting new members and the entire mail-order business.
He was appointed Chairman of the Management Board of the Bertelsmann Club corporation at the beginning of 1993. Since 1994 Dr. Kundrun has been manager of Premiere Medien GmbH & Co. KG in Hamburg.
In August 1997, Dr. Kundrun was appointed to the management board of Gruner + Jahr and acted as head of their newspaper division until October 31st 2000.
From November 1st 2000 to January 6th 2009, Dr. Kundrun was chairman of the management board for Gruner + Jahr, Europe’s biggest magazine publisher. During this time, he was also member of the Bertelsmann Management Board.
Since February 1st 2009, Dr. Kundrun has been a shareholder, Advisory Board member and investor for the Betterplace foundation. Since 2010 he is chairman of the board of the gut.org gAG.
He has also been on the Board of Directors of the Neue Züricher Zeitung corporation since April 2009. At the end of 2009, Dr. Kundrun founded the Start 2 Ventures holding company that provides initial capital to various online start-ups.
Bernd Kundrun is married and has one son.
