Markus Bahmann was born in Hanau am Main, Germany, in 1963 and studied law at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität of Munich (1st state examination in 1988, 2nd state examination in 1991). After the second state examination he completed his doctorate in business economics with a dissertation on "Trademark Strategies for the Common Market".

Markus Bahmann was admitted to practice as an attorney-at-law in 1991. Since that time he has worked exclusively in the area of industrial property rights. After working for many years as attorney, partner, a member of the supervisory and advisory boards of various companies he joined Maiwald Patentanwalts GmbH in 2010.

His competencies cover all aspects of industrial property rights, especially trademarks, patents, utility models and designs as well as related infringement litigation. He possesses specialist knowledge and experience in all aspects of the internet, including domain disputes, and advises initiatives on new top-level domain acquisitions.

Markus Bahmann is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright (GRUR) and the International Trademark Association (INTA). He is on the Internet Committee of the latter association. He also has a seat on the Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) within the Internet Corporation for Assigned Numbers and Names (ICANN).
