Elmar Knipp studied computer science and business studies at the University of Dortmund. Strictly speaking, his entrepreneurial activities always took priority over his studies. Today he acts as an honorary member as the chair of the supervisory board of DENIC, was six years the vice president of CORE as well three years one of the directors of Afilias.

Elmar Knipp holds 50 per cent of Knipp's shares. As managing director, he is mainly responsible for technology and strategy.
