David W. Maher

David W. Maher is the Senior Vice President for Law and Policy of PIR. He is one of the founding members of PIR. He has forty years of experience in Law and Policy.
He is a registered patent attorney and specializes in intellectual property, communications and entertainment law. He is admitted to the bar in New York, Illinois, Wisconsin, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center Panel of Neutrals.
Mr. Maher also serves as the Director of Better Business Bureau of Chicago. He is a visiting professor at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. He is also a member of the American Law Institute. He is also a partner in the Chicago office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal.
He founded PIR in 2002 and held the position of its Chairman till 2004. For 20 years, he worked as a General Counsel at the Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Northern Illinois Inc. He served on 11-member International Ad Hoc Committee in 1996. In 1997, he became chairman of the Policy Oversight Committee. He has been the VP of Public Policy at ISOC.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Classics from the Harvard College and Law degree from Harvard Law School.
